With heavy hearts we remember Charlotte Figi, the hero with Dravet Syndrome backed by the support of a loving community, who passed away last Tuesday at age 13. Charlotte leaves behind a great legacy having inspired the CBD strain “Charlotte’s Web” and creating a CBD movement.
Charlotte suffered from a rare form of epilepsy that could not be controlled by conventional medication, she had a rough start and was expected to not live past the age of 8. Dravet Syndrome brought horrific seizures, despite this she beat the odds time after time and with the use of CBD oil her seizures sharply declined. With the Stanley Brothers’ help they were able to breed a CBD strain named “Charlotte’s Web,” and thanks to it Charlotte began to eat, play, and make connections like she never had before. "Inspiring is a lacking word, as are courageous and vivacious and strong and beautiful. She was divine," say the Stanley Brothers.
Unfortunately, Charlotte and her family had been sick in the last month while the rest of the family recovered, Charlotte’s condition had not been improving. She had been hospitalized recently due to pneumonia and seizures; treated as a likely case of COVID-19, although she tested negative for the virus. Charlotte was discharged Sunday after bouncing back and was back to the hospital Tuesday morning after a seizure, where she passed away surrounded by her family.
"Charlotte is no longer suffering. She is seizure-free forever," a family friend wrote on Paige Figi's Facebook page, announcing Charlotte's death. We would like to thank Charlotte and everyone who helped alongside her journey as we remember her today and in the future.
